Eureka Seven: Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers (Blu-ray), Early Look/Review
By Marc | February 13th, 2010

Eureka Seven is back… in movie form.  Eureka Seven: Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers (long enough title I think) is a new adventure with Renton, Eureka, and the crew of the Gekko.

I’m sure all the Eureka Seven (I certainly won’t be using the full title every time in the review…) fans already ran off to go get a copy, but unfortunately this is an early review, and it won’t be released until next month.  But let’s take a look at how the Blu-ray is, and if it’s worth the cost of entry for fans. Soul Eater: Part 1, Early Look/Review
By Marc | February 4th, 2010

Working for the Grim Reaper himself can’t be the easiest job now can it?  Which is why he founded a school to… wait… Death runs a school?  Sounds a bit iffy for my tastes.

In fact, when I first heard about this show a couple years ago, I wrote it off completely.  But having arrived in Region 1 land (and my mailbox) I decided I could at least open it up and take a peek at an episode or two of Soul Eater… I mean, even if I didn’t like it, Bones has made some of my favorite shows, so it won’t be that bad… right? Sands of Destruction: The Complete Series, Early Look/Review
By Marc | January 18th, 2010

Back with another anime DVD to review, this time we have a Funimation show, via a Sega game… Sands of Destruction.

Sega doesn’t normally get the high marks for quality they used to long ago, so can a Sega based anime work out? Continue reading

Linebarrels of Iron: Part 1, Early Look/Review
By Marc | January 3rd, 2010

Back on a new computer with a new review.  This time we have Gonzo popping up with the story of a boy and a mech (a story no anime fan has ever heard before…)

So does Linebarrels of Iron and the story of a boy and a mech show us anything we haven’t seen in the genre before?  Let’s take a look. Continue reading

Naruto Shippuden The Movie, Early Look/Review
By Marc | October 31st, 2009

Another year, another Naruto movie on DVD.  This time it’s based on Shippuden though, so everyone is a little older and a little wiser (well not really wiser…)

Shonen movies are always stuck in that loop of wanting to be ‘the big movie’ version of a show, and then having to reset to point zero at the end.  Let’s see how the newest Naruto movie does.

Blassreiter: Part 1, Early Look/Review
By Marc | October 14th, 2009

Back again, and this time with a bloody treat, Blassreiter.  One of the original simulcasts is finally getting a DVD release. After the show was given out for free, does the DVD deserve a place on your shelf?

Instead of my normal comment, a small warning.  Look at the cover art.  If the cover art makes you a bit creeped out, just consider… this is the American cover art.  If this is what we get for the cover, imagine the content of the show itself… but for the rest of you, it may be a ride worth catching ( and aha!, fought the effort to make a motorcycle joke!)  Also, after the jump is the entire first episode embedded for your viewing pleasure via Gonzo’s Youtube channel, and Funimation Video is also streaming the entire series subtitled (along with a few dub episodes as a preview.) Escaflowne: The Movie (Blu-ray), Early Look/Review
By Marc | October 9th, 2009

Time for another early review.  This time we have the Escaflowne movie, now having over half a dozen American releases.

EscaflowneMovieBD

Having had over a dozen releases, and the Ultimate Edition from day one still being the preferred version, is Escaflowne on Blu-ray a great release?  Or should it go in the pile of disks that few want, next to Escaflowne on UMD and Bandai’s Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence Blu-ray.

Digimon: Data Squad- Collection One, Early Look/Review
By Marc | May 14th, 2009

Digimon in the USA has always had an odd history.  Never quite getting a real release for any of it’s seasons on DVD (minus a single DVD for the first season released nearly a decade ago that had over 10 episodes stuffed onto it and the first three films in their ‘edited into one film for the USA’ version on a different DVD) Well Go USA has teamed up with Toei USA to bring boxsets of the newest season to the USA.

After some lackluster online streaming and video on demand offerings recently, let’s see if this is finally a Digimon release fans can get behind and enjoy.

Dragonball Z: Broly Triple Feature (Blu-ray), Early Look/Review
By Marc | March 23rd, 2009

Wow, we already have an American anime Blu-ray getting a double dip (well mostly anyways).  Here we are again with yet another Broly Blu-ray.  The original ‘prototype’ Blu-ray disk had quite a few problems.

Akira (Blu-ray), Early Look/Review
By Marc | January 30th, 2009

It’s time for one of the bigger, if not the biggest early review I’ve done, Akira.  Akira is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest anime as far as us over here in the USA are often concerned with.  Over the years with more and more big name releases it may get a bit more bogged down when it comes to discussions of the biggest things ever, but for anyone who got into anime years ago, Akira is the big shadow in the room.

Getting to do the first review I know of of this disk nearly a month before it comes out anywhere in the world is just….awesome.  Being probably one of the closest things anime fans will get to the must have Blu-ray, let’s take a look at how they did, including some new ground broken.
